Synagogue Activities

Development Activities

Our active Development Committee put on a range of cultural, educational and social activities throughout the year including quiz nights, horse race nights, any questions - an evening of wine and wisdom, murder mystery nights etc.  The Committee is also involved with the Guild in organising communal suppers and communal Seder nights.  More details are available from our secretary or the Council.

Chalkwell Club

The Chalkwell Social Club, which was founded in 1967, is purely a social club and is not involved in any fundraising activities.  Meetings, which are held fortnightly on Sundays (8.00pm to 10.15pm) at Southend and District Reform Synagogue, are informal and include activities that everyone can participate. Members are active retired people of 50+, although retirement isn’t essential!

Apart from the opportunity for all members to socialise, there are varied programmes, such as quizzes, musical evenings, horseracing, debates, whist drives and an occasional speaker.  We have a ‘Party Night’ in the winter (December) and a smaller party or outing in the summer.

Entry is £1.00 for members / £1.50 for visitors and it is very easy to become a member of the club.  Included in the price of the entry is a drink with biscuits and occasionally cakes. Why not come along and meet us! Contact the Chair or Secretary for further information.
