The synagogue became a member of the scheme in 1995. The object of the scheme is to make funeral provision in respect of the death of a member of the congregation, providing that person has been a member of the synagogue for six calendar months, unless transferring from another synagogue within the same scheme.
The scheme covers the cost of standard burial / cremation of all members up to the age of 50, at the time of joining the scheme.
The reduction of benefit for those over the said age is as below:
Age 50, but under 55 10%
55, but under 60 25%
60, but under 65 40%
65, but under 70 55%
70, but under 75 70%
75, but under 80 85%
Full details of the scheme are available for inspection.
Please note that is possible to be a member of the synagogue, and not a member of the burial scheme should you have alternative arrangements, but it is not possible to be a member of the burial scheme if you are not a member of the Synagogue.
Under the terms of our membership we are required to provide the JJBS with a copy of the death certificate of any member for whom we are claiming benefit. F P Guiver and Sons Ltd of Southend-on-Sea, who are our funeral directors, have agreed to provide a copy of this certificate when the family of the deceased make funeral arrangements.
We trust that members will explain this arrangement to their immediate family or anybody who may be called upon to settle affairs on their behalf.
